Randy Moss Commentary Week 12

After almost every loss, even the most disgruntled NFL fanatic can throw their hands up, sigh and simply say, "Well, at least they tried."After Sunday's four-point loss at Arrowhead Stadium, fans of the can't even do that. And they have Randy Moss to thank. After catching just one pass in the team's 17-13 loss against the Denver Broncos, Moss topped himself yet again. The 6-foot-4 receiver was held without a single catch on Sunday, targeted three times by quarterback Aaron Brooks. The first resulted in an offensive pass interference; the 6 Super Bowl Champions jersey White jersey
second drew an illegal contact from CB Patrick Surtain; and the third ended in a game-killing interception.Brooks' final pass intended for Moss came from the Kansas City eight-yard line with just over 30 seconds left. On the spot, Brooks naturally pinned most of the blame on himself."It was a decision I made, and I thought it was right," he commented. "But it ended up being wrong based on the throw."However, Brooks also admitted that he "anticipated" his receiver to settle in front of Kansas City free safety Jarrad Page. Instead, Moss casually ran behind Page, who easily caught the ball with No. 18 standing on his heels in the back of the end zone. Former Raiders quarterback Rich Gannon, who provided commentary for the CBS game, was the first to point that out.The 29-year-old, who earlier in the week said he was "tired" of losing and wouldn't mind a change of scenery next year, now has just 33 catches for 455 yards on the 2006 season. In the week leading up to Sunday's game, the veteran receiver also publicly challenged his doubters."I would invite somebody to come in and put the 18 jersey on," he said. "See what we go through on a weekly basis and then expect to go out there and perform at our highest level."Ronald Curry may have been wearing the number 89 -- not 18 -- but he certainly performed at his highest level. The 27-year-old, who has been through more physical distress in the last five years than any receiver in the NFL, finished the evening with a team-leading five grabs for 89 yards. Among the other receivers not wearing a number 18 jersey, but with a catch include: TE Randal Williams (three), WR Alvis Whitted (two), and TE Courtney Anderson (two). On the year, Moss has been targeted 78 times, but 4 Brett Favre White jersey
ranks fourth in the NFL in passes not caught with 45, including seven unforced drops.Following the game, fourth-year running back Justin Fargas commented, "To fight all day and be in a position to win and let it slip away at the end, it really hurts.""It hurts physically to fight that hard."Well, Randy Moss doesn't have to worry about that.Want to be in the Raiders mailbag?
